New Windsor School Identified as a 2018-19 Recognition School
New Windsor School of Newburgh Enlarged City School District is one of 562 high-achieving and high-progress schools identified as a 2018-19 Recognition School, Commissioner MaryEllen Elia of the New York State Education Department (NYSED) announced on Tuesday, June 18th. New Windsor School, which serves 479 scholars in pre-K through grade 5, teaches Humanities Through Literature. A program of choice that focuses on using literature not just as an educational tool for learning English Language Arts, but also using literature as a companion tool while learning a variety of subjects.
Under New York’s Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) Plan, Recognition Schools are those that have high academic achievement, student growth and graduation rate, and have made progress during the 2017-18 school year. As a 2018-19 Recognition School, New Windsor School will receive a certificate of recognition from NYSED Commissioner MaryEllen Elia.
“These achievements would not be possible without the dedication of our teachers, staff and administrators, both past and present, who are focusing on closing the equity gap throughout the district. We are united in our fight to ensure race, zip code, ethnicity, skin color, and socio- economic status are not predictors for success. In unity and through the work of all, we will achieve inclusive excellence. A special thank you to both Lisamarie Spindler, Ed.D., Principal during the 2017-2018 school year and to current Principal, Mr. Christopher Lee.” – Roberto Padilla, Superintendent.
The complete Recognition Schools list is available on the State Education Department website. Further details on the Recognition School identification methodology can be found on the Department’s ESSA Accountability Designations website.
