Certified Nurse Aide Scholars Participate in Traditional Pin Ceremony
More than 43 scholars from the Health Science Career Education Pathway celebrated their accomplishment with a traditional pinning ceremony. Pins were presented to candidates for completion of requirements for: NYS Certified Nursing Assistant and Nurse Assistant. A pinning ceremony is a symbolic welcoming of newly graduated nurses into the nursing profession. Pins were given by teachers from the program.
A few alumni from the program returned to show support and highlight their accomplishments since their pinning ceremonies. The keynote speaker for the event was: Charlize Ava Bultron a 2nd grade scholar who participates in the Newburgh Armory’s K-Career program that offers education to students on Saturday mornings with NFA teacher Mrs. Linda Romano. A second keynote address was made by Yamatha Lozado, a 9th grade scholar from the Middle school program taught by Linda Romano afterschool this year and throughout the upcoming summer. Speakers also included members of the community partnerships, Montefiore St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital, Crystal Run Healthcare, Access: Supports Living, and Sapphire Nursing Care.

Prior to the event, students participated in an interview day where nine scholars received full-time jobs. Students developed their resumes and cultivated interview skills in addition to completing requirements, developing skills, and passing necessary tests to be eligible for the available positions. Toward the end of the event, students participated in a professional development session for suicide prevention training and earned a certificate for completion offered by Access Supports for Living.
