Newburgh Free Academy Main Campus Hosts Fourth and Final Blood Drive of the Year
Newburgh Free Academy Main Campus hosted their fourth and final Blood Drive earlier this month. Of the four drives, there were 404 donors. Each donation can save 3 lives, for a potential total of 1212 saved lives through these high school coordinated blood drives.
Ms. Michele McKnight and Mr. Rich Anderson have been advisers for the Blood Drive for the past 9 years. The foundation for the Blood Drive began with Ms. Melissa Siegel, current teacher at Newburgh Free Academy’s West Campus. The Blood Drive acts as a way for students to collaborate as a team to organize the event and give back to the community in a very important and meaningful way.
In addition to donating blood, participants could also donate platates. The process takes longer, but allows for a more substantial donation. Additionally, this drive welcomed LiveOnNY, a non-profit organization that coordinates organ donation.
