NFA Main PRISM Club (Gay Straight Alliance) hosted the 6th Annual LGBTQIA+ Youth Conference on Thursday, April 4, 2019, in conjunction with Jewish Family Services (JFS) of Orange County. This year’s theme was Human Rights and Safety in this World and included workshops focusing on bystander intervention, community organizing, gender-tastic artwork and federal and state legal protections for LGBTQ.
Speeches were given by building Principal Raul Rodriguez, PRISM President Brianna Lossow, JFS Executive Director Elise Gold and PRISM Vice President Kalifah Griffin. Keynote addresses were given by Ron Zacchi, who works with the Governor’s Office and designer, Randy Florke.
Mr. Morrison and scholars from NFA’s Culinary program made colorful treats and designed the refreshments table. On display were pieces from Orange County Council of Human Rights Human Rights Artwork Show with each artwork being based on the universal articles of Human Rights created by the United Nations.
NFA Main teachers Amanda O’Neill and Doug Needam advise PRISM and worked with Jillian Braime, an intern with JFS and over 30 PRISM members to plan and implement this event.
Students from Kingston, New Paltz, Walkill, Campbell Hall attended the event along with students from NECSD.
