Letter from Deputy Superintendent Regarding Policy #5100
April 16, 2019
Dear Parent(s) and/or Guardian(s),
As you know, the school district has a policy that outlines the expectations for student attendance. A copy of Policy number 5100 Comprehensive Student Attendance is available on the school district website NewburghSchools.org or directly at https://www.boarddocs.com/ny/necsd/Board.nsf/Public#tab-policies.
At the April 16, 2019 Newburgh Enlarged City School District Board of Education Meeting, the following change was approved:
No Individual is authorized to change a student’s attendance record beyond five (5) school days after returning to school (e.g., changing an unexcused absence to an excused absence).
Please provide the required written documentation for the reason your child was absent within five (5) days of their return. Documentation received beyond the five (5) days will no longer be accepted and the student’s record will be marked as an unexcused absence(s) for that occurrence. Should you have any questions, please contact your school principal.
All district policies can be found by visiting: NewburghSchools.org > Board of Education > Board of Education Codes, Policies, and Notices. Please note, the Policy Manual is currently being updated as policies are revised and restructured. The directions listed directly above are still valid however, additional, newly approved policies, are also available on the BoardDocs website under the Policies Tab. The BoardDocs website can be accessed by visiting: NewburghSchools.org > Board of Education > BOE Agendas and Minutes > BoardDocs > Policies.
You and your student(s) can check their attendance by visiting NewburghSchools.org > Families > Parent Portal (Infinite Campus). If you do not have a Parent Portal account, please contact the main office of your building.
Through the work of all,
Ed Forgit
Deputy Superintendent
Newburgh Enlarged City School District
