Fifth Grade Unlimited Horizons Students Create Art for Student Creative Expression Exhibit

Students in Ms. Hoffman’s fifth grade Unlimited Horizons class at Horizons on the Hudson Magnet School collaborated with art teacher Ms. Heisler to create artwork for the 2019 Student Creative Expression Exhibit. The exhibit, sponsored by the Hudson Valley LGBTQ Community Center and held in response to No Name-Calling Week, focuses on feelings connected to bullying, kindness, understanding and respect. In preparing for the process, the students brainstormed ideas about how people are bullied and then sorted them into the categories of Stereotypes, Power, Popularity, Personality and Appearance. The students worked in groups to create works of art featuring both images and words related to their selected topic.

An opening night reception for the exhibit will be held on Monday, March 18 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Henry A. Wallace Center at the Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library and Museum, 4079 Albany Post Road, Hyde Park, NY 12538. The reception is free and open to the public, and will feature refreshments and guest speakers. The work will be on display from March 18 through March 22, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.
