Jeans 'n Need Service Project at South Middle School
Scholars enrolled in the Empire State After School Program at South Middle School are working on a community outreach program collecting jeans for those in need. Maternal-Infant Services Network, Inc. (MISN), is implementing the Teen Outreach Program (TOP) through the Empire After School Program at South Middle School. A component of TOP is Community Service Learning. The scholars chose and planned a "jeans drive" for their community service learning project. Called JEANS 'N NEED, these scholars will collect jeans in all sizes to then, donate to shelters, warming stations and churches.
Launching Wednesday, February 20, all jeans will be sorted, washed, dried, folded and packed in South MS on Thursday afternoons for several weeks until they reach their goal of 300 pair of jeans. Several departments and adults are supporting this project including the Principal, Assistant Principal, School Nurse, Home & Careers Teacher and Security to name a few. Donations are welcome as the scholars continue their work on this project!
