Scholars Collaborate to Create Technology for All Video for Contest
In a collaborative effort, scholars from Mr. Du Quesnay’s Video Production class and Mrs. Fay Pacht’s Acting class produced, directed, and starred in a video about the technology provided to scholars throughout the Newburgh Enlarged City School District.
The video was submitted to the League of Innovative Schools Moonwalk Film Festival, a contest held by Digital Promise. In the fall of 2017, NECSD was accepted into a National Network of Innovative Schools, sponsored by Digital Promise. The Newburgh Enlarged City School District was selected from a competitive national pool of applicants based on its leadership, evidence of results, innovative vision for learning, and commitment to collaboration.
In the fall of 2018, all scholars in grades 3-10 received Chromebooks as part of the district’s 1:1 technology plan, with a plan to allow scholars to bring their Chromebooks home by the end of the year. The district also transitioned to Google for Education over the summer. The Chromebook is designed to work seamlessly with G Suite for Education, which is the suite of tools used throughout NECSD. G Suite for Education is a Google program that offers a suite of productivity tools to help students and teachers interact seamlessly and securely across devices. An estimated 80 million students worldwide use G Suite for Education.
The top 15 films were be selected to be shown on our special Film Festival night. However, all submitted films were showcased throughout the event and on a special YouTube page. All participants received a certificate of recognition. Films were selected based on creativity (25%), production style and form (25%) and message (50%). Scholars were free to select their own style of video, but were given possibilities of submitting a music video, an animated short, a newscast, a documentary, or a silent film.
