Meadow Hill FIREWORKS Program Lesson 3: Building Foundations: Identity and Values
On Tuesday, 27 November, the Fireworks! Outreach team returned to Meadow Hill Elementary School for Lesson 3, Building Foundations: Identity and Values. The lesson opened with an indoor “snowball” fight where girls exchanged balls of paper, writing one thing that is important to each of them on the paper before throwing it. After several rounds, the girls broke off into 5 groups where cadet facilitators led a discussion about values and how they play an integral role in personal identity and development. After identifying which values were truly important, often differing from what they wrote during the opening activity, the girls filled out a worksheet, identifying sources for values. To close out the lesson, the girls chose one value that was most important to them to write on a large I.D. tag to take home. The I.D. tag will serve as a reminder of how values make up a part of who they are as a person. The Fireworks! team will return to Meadow Hill for its final lesson of the semester in December.
