The Newburgh Basics Celebrates 1 Year Anniversary
The Newburgh Basics community initiative celebrated their 1 Year Anniversary on October 26th at Head Start of Eastern Orange County. There were guest speakers and activities encompassing the 5 Basics.
The Newburgh Basics are five evidence-based parenting and caregiving principles that encompass much of what experts find is important for children from birth to age three. The Newburgh Enlarged City School District is only one of a handful of school districts in the New York, Hudson Valley embracing this early intervention learning concept aimed at providing families the learning tools needed before their children enter the districts Pre-K programs.
The Newburgh Basics Campaign is a Newburgh community initiative inspired by the fact that 80% of brain development happens in the first three years of life. During this period, skill gaps between socio-economic, racial, and ethnic groups become clearly apparent. This does not need to be! Everyday interactions between children, their parents, and other caregivers provide abundant opportunities to give children from every background a more equal start in life.
The first year of The Newburgh Basics had successful partnerships throughout Orange County, and provided a number of information sharing events aimed at distributing the 5 Basics principles, including:
