NFA West Scholar Participates in Internship with Executive Director of Facilities and Operations
NFA West Scholar, Lawrence Coleman, is participating in his third internship through the internship program at his high school. This year, Lawrence is completing his internship right in the Newburgh Enlarged City School District with Mr. Andy Velez, Executive Director for Operations and Maintenance. On his first day as an intern, Lawrence attended the district safety meeting with various law enforcement professionals throughout the three municipalities that NECSD operates. Then, he traveled to a school to observe a safety drill.
Previously, Lawrence interned with the City of Newburgh Police Department and local newspapers the Times Herald Record and the Mid-Hudson Times.
Scholars at NFA West participate in internships on Thursdays for several hours. Internships help to expose scholars to possibilities for future paths and connects them with possible mentors within our local community. During the 2017-2018 academic year, 95% of scholars from NFA West completed an internship.
