Ms. Hoffman’s Fifth Grade Students Write for Change
The students in Ms. Hoffman’s fifth grade class wrote letters to the musician Michael Franti in response to his song “Same as it Ever Was.” The students, who
are in the Unlimited Horizons class at Horizons on the Hudson Magnet School, have been studying human rights and were inspired by the lyrics of the song, which
state, among other things, “when we all have justice, then we’ll all have peace.” The students’ letters were sent to Greg Gattine, program director at WDST radio, who delivered them to the musician following a recent concert. In their letters, the students referred to the need for respect for all races and for everyone to be treated
fairly.
