NFA West Scholars Learn from Local Entrepreneur
Scholars at Newburgh Free Academy’s West Campus heard from a local entrepreneur and artist as part of their weekly time designated to learn about internship opportunities, community, and future careers. Mr. Leon Johnson artist, chef, designer, and entrepreneur visited to talk about his local business, Lodger on Liberty Street in Newburgh. Lodger is a space intended for the community.
Mr. Johnson describes himself as someone who is interested in taste and notes that so many things have stemmed from that interest – interests in sound, style, community, and conversation. From there, his idea for Lodger has developed.
“Food gives the opportunity to invent something new each day.” Mr. Leon Johnson, Lodger
Mr. Johnson will be selecting two students who are interested in learning more about the art of cooking and community. Students who participate in an internship with Mr. Johnson will be helping to design portable kitchens, helping to host dinner parties, learning to engage with the local community, and learning to print marketing materials and bind books. The final project for interns will be to fully design and implement a community dinner.
